Another year has come and gone and in just under 1 week, the Jewish holiday of Passover will be here.

Like all holidays, this is a time when families gather for what is known as a Seder, and like all jewish get togethers, there is an abundance of food!

For those of you that know me, I love food.  Especially dessert…okay, chocolate!  So this year, I decided to make the BEST chocolate matzah ever!

I was given a recipe by one of my besties, who just happens to be one of the best bakers that I know.  If this chocolate matzah crunch was her recipe, I KNEW that it would be amazing.

So for that reason, I must share it with all of you.  And please be sure to let me know how it turned out.  For those of you who are chocolate matzah virgins, be prepared for deliciousness like no other…and try not to salivate too much while making!

If you are anything like me, you will be licking the cutlery and trying not to eat too many pieces before you need to serve the guests!

Matzah crunch

Ingredients:
•4-6 unsalted matzoh boards or sheets /pan
•1 cup unsalted butter or unsalted Passover margarine
•1 cup light brown sugar – packed firmly
•3/4 cup chocolate chips/white chocolate chips/semi sweet – use whatever you like the most ( I do a few pans of different variety)
•choice of toppings – milk/dark/white chocolate chips, mini eggs, skor bits

Instructions: Preheat oven to 350 F.

Line doubled up, rimmed cookie sheets completely with foil. Cover bottom of pan with baking parchment – on top of foil. This is very important as mixture becomes sticky during baking. Line bottom of pan evenly with matzoh boards, cutting extra pieces of matzoh, as required, to fit any spaces on the cookie sheet as evenly as possible.
Combine margarine or butter and brown sugar in a 3 quart, heavy-bottomed, saucepan. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Stir well and then pour or spoon over matzoh (completely covering each piece)
Bake 15 minutes, checking every few minutes to make sure mixture is not burning. If it seems to be browning too quickly, remove from oven, lower heat to 325 F. and replace.
Remove from oven and sprinkle matzoh boards immediately with chocolate chips. Let stand 5 minutes then spread melted chocolate over matzoh and top with your fav topping. Put in the fridge or freezer to cool.

When chocolate has hardened break into squares or odd shapes and serve!

If you are making this in advance, store in air tight Ziploc bags in freezer and remove hours before needing to serve.

This makes a good hostess gift too!  Put them out on a platter or you can also serve it in confectioners’ paper cups as a candy bowls.

Happy baking and Happy Passover to those celebrating!

Do you have any good Passover recipes to share?
