To My 7 Year Old On Your Birthday

I still remember the day you were born like it was yesterday. My first experience being pregnant, my first experience being in labour, my first experience becoming a mother. You were my first of everything.

You took close to 16 hours to come out. I remember my water breaking at 12:30am on September 8th. 4 days after my expected due date. I remember thinking, this is it. Our baby is coming.

We didn’t know if you were a boy or a girl. It didn’t matter though. When you finally made your appearance in the world, I remember crying and holding you so tightly to my chest.

I had no idea what I was doing. But I did know that from the instant I laid my eyes on you, I fell in love.

I can’t believe you are 7 years old today. Where has the time gone?  You are the most amazing child. And I’m not just saying that. From the moment you were born, you have been the most relaxed and chill boy. Which I thank you for because if you were a wild child, I don’t know that I would have handled it well!

I love everything about you. I love how smart you are. I love that you are independant and do what you want. I love how you are just like me and get distracted easily and can’t do two things at once. I love that you will give me hugs at random moments. I love that you want to talk to me and have me tuck you in every night. I love how even though you are a picky eater, you will still try new things.

I hope you know how proud we are of you. And I can’t wait to watch you grow and become a young man. Just don’t do that too fast okay?

I want you to know how much I love you. And I thank god for you everyday. Thank you for making me a mother and for showing me the true meaning of unconditional love.

You will always be my first born, my first baby, my first everything.

So, to my 7 year old on your birthday, I wish you everything you want. You deserve it my love.

I love you to the moon and back.

Love,

MOM

For the last 7+ years I have immersed myself in the "mom life". My blog, appropriately named Me, Myself and Kids is my life; the challenges, the laughter, and the tears. But I also offer my own version of motherly advice. In doing so, I’ve designating myself as an MD or “Mom Doc”. Not because I know it all. Don’t get me wrong. It’s an open perspective; my learnings shared so you can take the good, bad and ugly and adapt it to your own family life. So please join me as I share all of the crazy and overwhelming thoughts and experiences of the mom life with Me, Myself and Kids.
