Weekend Getaway to Deerhurst Resort and How You Can Save On Your Stay

I don’t know about you but in the summer when friends are heading up north to go to their cottages, I get a bit envious. How much would I love having a home away from home, relax a little, lounge by a lake, soak in the sun and play with my kids? Let me tell you how much…ALOT.

Last year my family and I had the opportunity to go to Deerhurst Resort for the half IronMan weekend. We didn’t get to go up for the race this year, but we chose to spend the Labour Day weekend there after having such a great time the previous year.

It was a short 2 hour drive from where we live and the moment we entered the premises we felt at home.

The moment you walk in the main building, not only are you greeted by friendly staff, but you are also greeted by the historical ambiance in a cottage country setting. The lobby shines with a huge chandelier, a great sitting area and fireplace. Which comes in handy at check in when there’s a line up!

There are many forms of accommodation that the resort offers; hotel style room and larger condo’s. Because we were a party of 6, we chose to stay in one of the three bedroom condos. These condos are fully equipped with a full kitchen, dining area, sitting area and balcony, have a Master bedroom with King bed, a second bedroom with two Queen beds, and a third bedroom with one Queen bed. And get this – three bathrooms. One in each room. Our condo overlooked the golf course and there are others that over look the lake. Peaceful. And the advantage of staying in a condo – much closer to the beach area which is good for the kids when it comes to the amount of walking.

Because we stayed in a condo and having the advantage of a full kitchen we brought up some food with us, but Deerhurst has a few different restaurant offerings for all your taste buds. Our favorite and the only one we went to this time was Maple Pub & Patio. It is a family friendly, casual dining atmosphere and my kids loved it. The food is great and if the weather permits, you can dine on their huge patio overlooking the golf course.

What we love about Deerhurst is all the things we can do as a family. We had a blast playing basketball and tennis (free), indoor rock climbing  ($15/pp), an arcade room, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, plus a whole slew of different activities for everyone to enjoy (both free as well as some with minimal charges).

Not only that, there is a huge beach area; kids can play in the sand while you lounge in your arm chair, there is an area with a dock for boats to ski, a splash zone in the lake, and an area to canoe, paddleboard, and kayak. The kids absolutely loved this part and so did I!!

We had such a great weekend and really look forward to going back. May even be worth trying in another season too and see what else there is to offer!
