I don’t know about you, but I tend to think that if I’m woken up in the middle of the night, say 3:30am for example, it would be because of my 1.5 year old. Ya…not so much. In my house, its the complete opposite.
My soon to be 5 year old has inspired this blog post due to waking me up at 3:30am last night for reasons beyond belief. And of course its almost impossible to go back to sleep – it took me over half an hour.
Why you ask? Because as I thought to myself, ‘what would make this kid wake up for THAT‘, I thought of all the other crazy, ridiculous, ARE YOU SERIOUS, reasons he has woken us up at god forsaken hours of the night. So even though I tried to get my brain to stop thinking, I came up with the top 10 reasons my son has woken us up in the middle of the night. (yes, I’m pleasantly surprised I woke up remembering this too…)
Here we go…(drumroll)
1. His blankie was not in a rectangle – the blanket (or lovey) that he sleeps with was not in the same shape it was when he went to bed and I had to fix it. Not to mention, he can only sleep on a certain side of it too…sheesh
2. He’s thirsty and he needs water – we keep a cup of water right next to his bed on his nightstand. I see how its impossible for him to get it by himself, take a sip and go back to sleep…I hope you sense my sarcasm
3. His water isn’t “fresh” – my bad, I call water straight from the fridge filter as fresh water. Its nice and cold. So when is not as cold as a freshly poured cup, it needs to be refilled. SEE POINT 2.
4. His knees hurt – My son has been known to get growing pains. NOT FUN
5. His blankie fell on the floor – how does he even know that? Just sleep!!
6. His finger is itchy – SERIOUSLY
7. His band-aid fell off – yup, he actually feels it or somehow realizes it. WTF????
8. He forgot to tell me something – now really, what on earth could wake a kid from a full sleep thinking that?? Can’t it just wait until the morning?
9. I didn’t give him a good night kiss – this actually happened one night that I put him to bed and told him I’d come back to give him a kiss after I finish my supper. When I went back up, he was already asleep. I kissed his cheek as he slept, but of course, he doesn’t know that so woke me to tell me I didn’t do it.
10. There is a ‘7’ on the clock – We taught my son that when he wakes up in the morning he can come to our room only if the clock says 7. I guess we needed to clarify furthur; 7 when its the FIRST number, not ANY number as in 1:57AM
I remember being told when I have kids that I’ll never sleep again…they were right!
Have your kids done any of these? Any new, crazy or funny ones to add? Please share!!
